Russia's Putin Says U.S. Shield Decision Positive
Sept. 17, 2009 - "Prime Minister Vladimir Putin welcomed the 'correct and brave' move by the US to decide against deploying missile interceptors in Poland and a radar in the Czech Republic as part of a global missile defense shield. The former U.S. Bush Jr administration came up with the plan which, it claimed, would head off alleged missile threats posed by 'rogue states', like Iran and North Korea. Russia, however, denounced the move as a 'security threat,' and warned to respond by installing potent Iskander-M missile systems in Kaliningrad, an exclave near Poland. Russian envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin on Friday hinted that Moscow could scrap the precautionary measure. "I hope you can understand logic...if we have no radars or no missiles in the Czech Republic and Poland, we don't need to find some response." Hard Times Ahead: First Lady Obama & Queen Plant Gardens
June 17, 2009 - "Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh talk to Claire Midgley, the Deputy Gardens Manager of Buckingham Palace, as they study the new vegetable garden in the grounds of the Royal residence. (The) organic vegetable patch...is about 10 yards by eight yards in size." While "the First Lady...and two dozen local students broke ground on the White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn of the White House. (The) students will be involved in the garden as it develops and grows, producing delicious, healthy vegetables to be cooked in the White House Kitchen and given to Miriam's Kitchen, which serves the homeless in Washington, DC."
